Long Post - Buckle Up

So, I’m at work right now, and I’m making the old lady I’m sitting with watch I Love the 80’s. I’m thinking about occasionally just adding into this post the things that they are discussing. For example, John Mayer measured h9is penis with the ruler on his Trapper Keeper. They’ve also recently discussed monster truck rallies and Atari. Amazingly, since I’ve started watching this, they’ve probably covered 10-15 topics, but I am unable to recall anymore than what I have just relayed.

So, here’s my current situation. I can’t sleep. Macguyver (sp?). I’ve been in nursing school for a year and three months, give a take a week or so. About two months into nursing school, I noticed that there was this really cute guy in nursing school, too. I was still pretty damaged at this point, Dungeons and Dragons, so I did not even pretend to think about him. He was cute, but inconsequential. I also had clinicals with him that semester. Found out he was really quiet, but likable. Started talking to him in class, but still, not interested.

In the fall, I came back for Level 2 of nursing. I ended up sitting in front of him. Actually, I sat in the “guys” section. Since there are so few of them, they tend to group. I’m pretty sick of girls, so I tend to migrate towards the boys. Anyhoo, I find out that over the summer, he had started dating this girl from Level 1 who I kind of detested. Teen Wolf. She also failed, so I don’t have to deal with her anymore, but she was a user. Anderson Cooper is SO hot. I thought to my self, “That’s too bad. He’s too nice a guy to be with her,” and kind of just moved on. However, I had clinicals with him again, and really got to know him and really got to where I liked him and really disliked the fact that he was with Golden Corral, the nickname I have secretly given his girlfriend.

Fastforward to Level 3, Golden Corral failed Level 1 again because she’s real stupid and unfocused (that’s a little harsh, I know), so she starts going to another school, Grey Poupon, but sadly, he actually lives in that town, so she gets her claws in a little deeper.

We are not in the same clinical group, but we sit beside each other now. Pretty much every day, we write notes back and forth. The notes are about whatever we are thinking about, but are rarely class-related. A couple of weeks ago, I thought to myself, “I wonder what would happen if I started flirting with him via note.” So I did. I was pretty surprised by the response. Which was VERY positive. Valley Girl.

There’s more to the story, but before I go on, I would like it if you told me what you think so far.

Sometimes, I get a little irate when reading status updates on Facebook. I have different political views from most people from my area, so I am exposed to a LOT of opinions that differ from mine. That doesn't bother me. Different opinions are good because the lead to debate and change, or at least they can. However, a lot of the statements I read are not really constructive, in any way. So, here is my list of things about Americans.

An American:
1. can be born or naturalized. Calling some people "real" Americans is pretty insulting to all other Americans.
2. is not required to pledge allegiance or salute the flag. If someone does not do this, it does not make then un-American or unpatriotic.
3. can live anywhere on the planet, except maybe Cuba and North Korea. I'm not sure if Americans are allowed there. Choosing to live outside of the 50 states, for whatever reason, is okay.
4. is allowed to criticize the government. I can totally appreciate that. I sure bashed on Bush for being a gigantic idiot. What I can't get behind, and this is why I just had to write something, is for so many people to pretend like everything going wrong started the day the Democrats took office. I can agree that the change I was looking for hasn't happened yet, but a lot of things are better than they were a year ago. Also, Obama won the election. He is and will be the president for the next three years. Is pissing and moaning really making those folks happy? I want to put another sentence here but instead I think I'll just pass gas. There.
5. cannot see Russia from his/her yard unless they do not live in the United States.
6. has a lot of rights and should not be called names when he/she chooses to invoke them.
7. shouldn't get to break the rules without consequences, but sometimes he does. I don't know what to tell you about this. That's why other countries don't like us.

I was going for 10, but I'll have to look at my Facebook to get worked up a little more, and then I'll be back.

All the Best Things Happen in July

Except, of course, for this horrible class I am taking. I admit that I already have a lack of interest and esteem for liberal arts, but this class is taking things to a new level. Sub-basement. It is a sociology course that might have been interesting to me at some point in my life, but that time is not now. It's so bad that if the school said I could just get a C and not go back, I would take the deal. Side-note, I've never ever had a C. Ever. Not even in handwriting or PE.

***********************************************************

My grandmother had carpal tunnel surgery of Friday, so my mom is staying at Mamaw's house for a while to help her out. I think Mamaw thought that she would be very limited in what she would be able to do, but she is SO not limited. She can use her right hand for almost every task she would need to for a short amount of time. She is, however, still milking it a little by having my mom bring her coffee and serving her food. She also inexplicably forgot how to change the channel on her TV yesterday, forcing us to watch several minutes of Care Bears. We could not change the channel because Mama was helping me install Mamaw's new blinds. It took three separate drills, lots of different screws, and some ingenuity, but we got it done eventually.

************************************************************

I would like to write more, but I have a test tomorrow, and I have a bit more reading to do. And I'm watching HawthoRNe on TNT. As someone who is in nursing school and knows a little bit about a nurse's responsibilities and limitations, I can't help but point out occasionally that "a nurse would never do that" or "nurses don't call time of death," but it's still a pretty good show.

My Hobby

So, I've been making shirts recently. Or, more accurately, designing things I can paint on shirts. I made some with my nieces a few weeks ago and that was really fun. Being a former teacher really comes in handy. I have planning and preparation (A) skills like nobody's business. Anyhoo, here are a few examples of shirts I've made. Note to Ashley: The last picture is of Jake's shirt. If you don't want to see it, be careful when scrolling.

These are the ones my nieces made, respectively.

I made this one for a friend of mine who just had a baby.

I made these for the girls for Father's Day. I didn't have the idea on Mother's Day, so Mama gets her gift as a shirt for Sawyer. Daddy gets one for Finley because he's her favoritest person in the whole wide world.

I made this one for me! For those of you that don't watch LOST, this is The Flame logo.

This one is for my friend Ashley's baby. His name is Jake. I don't know how to turn it 90 degrees for easier viewing, but you get the idea.

Mad World

I am having a problem. A pretty big one. I live in a small town. I live alone. And by alone, I mean ALONE. I don’t know anyone in town that I am not related to. Also, the people I am related to are old. I don’t know anyone my age. The people I go to school with are mostly a LOT younger than me or a lot older. They don’t live here.

My problem is that I don’t have any friends anywhere near me. It’s very tiring. That’s probably a weird way to describe it, but I need to see people, and I don’t really get to. I don’t really know how to resolve this, either. It’s not like it was in college with interesting people around everywhere. I met people at Wal-Mart, for goodness sake! I went to Wal-Mart last night, not only did I not see anyone my age, I also could not find the Exacto-Knife I went for. My Wal-Mart is SO crappy, they don’t even carry Exacto-Knives.

I know I’m better off here than I was in Fayetteville. I at least have my family nearby, but that’s just not enough.

Sorry about the whiny post. I’m just really unhappy about this and needed to share.

Nothing's Up

I wanted to write today, but I have nothing to say. I don't have a test tomorrow, which is weird because we have had a test almost every Monday this semester. I normally study on Sunday, so I'm kind of at a loss today. My parents were here this weekend, and they just left to go camping. I'm going to take Mamaw to them on Tuesday. That's boring.

I'm finally watching the last ERs. I'm about five away from the finale right now.

I have to draw some kidneys.

I bought a crossword puzzles book, but they are too easy.

Isn't there some kind of gambling that is lawful for 18 year-olds?

My TiVo is recording a movie on HBO right now. I don't get HBO.

Maybe something will come up that I feel like writing about soon.

Once Again Into the Breach

She's back for another try. Blogging from the couch and a heated blanket. Watching Chuck, the best new show around. Eating chili because it's delicious. Wearing a watch.

Well, that's a pretty good update, don't you think?

JUST KIDDIN'!!!

For reals though, I'm living in the Taylor and going to Nursing School. I have a lot of spare time these days because school only takes up a few hours a week, but those hours are so scattered that I can't have a real job. Maybe next semester the hours will be more consolidated. So, for work, I clean Mamaw's house and do odd jobs for people. I'll mow, fix a computer, call the phone company, or whatever needs to be done that my old relatives can't do. Works out well.

I'm bored a lot. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person in my age range in a 10 mile radius, and I don't know anyone outside of that radius. I still read a lot, just not as much as before because I have to read school books now. School books are boring. I think if authors of novels were hired to write school books, students would be more successful.

Roxie is great. She stays at Mamaw's house while I'm in school and plays with her dog Tommy. Tommy is 9 years old, so he can't really keep up, but they still have lots of fun. She goes on walks with me some, but she can't handle more than a mile. She gets really thirsty and has to stop every five minutes to tinkle. Just like my mom, come to think of it.

I'll try to remember that I have a blog and post again.

An Update

Okay. I forget to add things to this site. I'll do better, starting today. I'll set up a reminder on my phone or something.

Well, here's what's up. I've applied to nursing school in Magnolia. I'll live in my parents' house in Taylor while I go to school and try to keep working at Kids First in Magnolia while I go to school. I'm starting A&P I on Monday at the local community college, so that's one more class I won't have to take when I get down there. I'm pretty excited about it. A girl I work with had her books from last semester, so I'm hoping I can use them for my class. They started using a new edition this semester, but I don't feel like paying $200 for all new stuff. I'll ask the teacher if I can use the old ones when class starts on Tuesday night.

I've been watching A LOT of the Olympics. I TiVo it and then watch it the next day becuase I can't stay up as late as NBC thinks I can. I can also fast forward through any sports I'm not interested in, but that's a short list. I'm watching hurdles right now.

Thanks for the note, Dee!

I'll go set a reminder right now. More later.

Maybe I'll Write Once a Month

Dude, I know I said I was going to blog about some stuff, and that I said that a month ago, but I'm freaking tired! Taking care of kids is exhausting. I am always really tired when I get home, and I never feel like typing stuff up. I should just take my computer out to the backyard with me and then I might do something. I just really like laying around for a while when I get home, though.

Roxie finished her obedience classes. As we were leaving, one of the other "parents" said she had the best "by me" in the class. "By me" is a thing I say to get her to come and stand on my left side to let her know I want her to pay attention. That was pretty exciting. She is also laying down regularly now, and that was a 4 week episode. Most of the other dogs got it on the first night.

I am dog-sitting for my roommate who is out of town. Her dog pees a lot. In the kitchen, sometimes on my awesome table and chairs. If his urine messes up my stuff I will not be happy. He also pees on brown chair, a chair that has been mine since I was 2, about 5 times a week. I get upset with him when he does this. And he doesn't just do it because she is gone, he does it all the time. I have never been so close to hating a dog in my life.

And he tries to sleep on my face. Gross.

Been a While, Eh?

I don't know how long it's been since I wrote a post, but I have all sorts of things to write about. The problem is that I am very sick right now, and have been since last Friday. I can't talk on the phone or walk down the stairs without being winded, so you can imagine how tired I am after a day with the kids. We have graduation tomorrow night, but I am hoping to get rested and well this weekend. Then I will post about the perfect c, my new future, recent realizations, and Roxie's awesomeness in obedience class. I will tell you that people clapped for her last night.

JG in a Little Car

I'm pretty sure I saw Jorge Garcia in Fayetteville today. He was driving a compact car. It probably wasn't him since I'm pretty sure he's in Hawaii right now, but this guy looked EXACTLY like him. He drove past me at a red light, so I didn't get to take a picture. That's the only interesting thing that happened today. THE END.

Bring it

Based on my wounds from work, I thought I should take this test.

Saturday, April 5, 2008

I don't know if I've ever mentioned it, but my students are protected by HIPAA so that is why I never talk about my job. I don't want to say anything I'm not allowed to talk about it. I DO need to add a couple more hits on my list of injuries.

1 Three Stooges style bonk to to the top of my head, served cold so I wouldn't be expecting it
1 punch to the jaw - didn't hurt too bad but hurt this morning when I washed my face
1 punch to the ear - directly after the punch to the jaw and that hurt really bad. REALLY. Don't get punched in the ear.

Also, a story.

This morning, after spending one and a half hours helping the CuzMate clean her room (we are still not close to anything that could be called "clean"), I went with Shannon, my other cousin, to her son's baseball game. I took Roxie because it was a nice day and we both needed to get a little vitamin D via the sun.
Roxie is not a violent dog. She doesn't bite people, but she is very interested and often sniffs people as they walk by. Sometimes kids are skittish and take a wide berth, but she's not going to snap them. She's never done a thing to hurt a child.
Anyway, after about 100 people pass by and about 20 kids have spent time petting her, a man comes around the corner. If I had seen him coming, I would have held the leash just because he looked mean. I didn't see him coming. Roxie runs out to give him a sniff, and he kicks her! She then growls and lunges at him, but I pull her back before anything else happens.

Man: Who's dog is that"
Me: She's mine. I'm sorry! (I am apologizing for him kicking my dog, I guess.)
Man: Well, you're luck I didn't kick her G** D*** head off.
Me: Wow. Okay
Other people in vicinity: That kind of language isn't necessary. There are children around.
Man: I don't give a S***. D*** dog shouldn't be here. Blah, blah, blah.
Other people who are now enraged: You are out of order. There is no need to talk like that, especially with children around. And that dog weighs about 10 pounds, big man.
Man: [more cuss words]

Then a mom I know leaves to go tell the manager of the ball field about what is going on. Man sits behind us spitting in a cup.
About 20 minutes later, I noticed Roxie is bleeding from her back leg. Just a scratch, but that got me madder then a wet hen.

P.S. This man weighed about 250 and was wearing overalls and rubber boots.

Injury Tally

So, let's talk about workplace injuries. I am a teacher. This is not a profession that people think of as "dangerous." My dad is an electrician at a paper mill. That's a dangerous job. Two days ago his face got burned by steam that exploded out of a pipe.

As a teacher, I have had multiple injuries. I realize that teachers are not supposed to get hurt all that often, but I'm clumsy and have had some very dangerous students.

Since I started student teaching in 2004, I have had:

1. a dislocated shoulder
2. a pencil stab to my cheek
3. a choking
4. a death threat with easy to follow instructions
5. a broken nose
6. several head traumas
7. one bite with many more bite attempts
8. a giant scratch on my neck (current)
9. toy hammer thrown at my chest hard enough to make it sore for the past three days

Therefore, teaching is dangerous. Frankly, I would prefer my children go into law enforcement than teaching.

A Letter

Dear Mikey,

Here’s the thing. I know you aren’t good enough for me. I also know that to speak to you would be like opening a can that I finally successfully closed a while back. But, you keep popping up in memory. Please, go away. I don’t want to think of what went wrong. I don’t want to think that I made some sort of mistake. My rational mind knows that I’m better off, but I’m also getting tired of being alone, again. I spent five years alone before I met you, and I’ve slipped right back into that. I realize I’m only 26 years old, but I’m ready to be a real grown up. I’m kind of like Rachel in that episode of Friends when she’s dating that young guy and realizes that she doesn’t have enough time to do what she wants with her life.
Therefore, I start thinking of you. I know I shouldn’t. “Wrong road”, I tell myself. “Bad road.” Filled with potholes filled with poo. I’m tired of feeling lonely. I’m tired of feeling like my life is like a TiVo on pause. I don’t know how to work the remote. “Play! Play! “ I scream. Nothing changes. I go to church weekly now. I have a great job. I need something more. Am I being unreasonable? Is this too much to ask? Did I miss out on something that should have been great? When was that? How did I miss it?
I read three books last week. Three full novels. I have NOTHING to do with my time, so I read and read trying to fill up the empty space. It’s exhausting.
This letter wasn’t really to you, of course. I just really want you gone from my mind and replaced with someone else. Please?

Short Note #2

It doesne't let you see the whole author's name. It is Anagrams by Someone Who Doesn't Let You Know Her Book is Filled with Short Stories.

Short Note

I'm thinking about doing book reviews on here. Note the author of the second to most recent book on my list to the left. Didn't like that book.

Not Much Ado About Anything

Ashley,

You are my only visitor here, so I thought I should write this as a letter. I may have a few American Idol fans on here soon, though. Left a comment un-anonymously. Anyhoo, thought I would explain my absence from the computer. One day, it iced. Cuz Mate stayed home. She worked from here, and had to plug directly into the DSL box since her work computer is not wireless. Since then, my wireless does not work. Ever. So, I have to come upstairs and hook in to the wall. I KNOW! I have been so spoiled by getting to compute wherever I like that I can no longer handle the pressure of a wall to computer connection. I drape the cords over Roxie, make my mattress really hot, and retype everything I write because it's hard to type on my bed. So, it's good that I am no longer a part of the Facebook/MySpace crowd. Or maybe if I were, I would be more motivated to fix the freaking wireless.

So, that's that. Until next time, pfargtl.

Quizzin'

Take this test!

Your intellect puts you in a class above the rest, and it creates a sexual aura that's untouchable by people who possess nothing more than a pretty face. You have people and intellectual smarts and are able to juggle them accordingly. Your sense of the world at large and your world around you draws people to your mind, and what a beautiful mind it is.

Whether you look the part in horn-rimmed glasses and a finely pressed suit or dress simply in a T-shirt and jeans, your style really takes off when you flaunt your intellectual prowess. You're probably happier volunteering for a good cause, like tutoring kids, than spending all night partying with friends — well, at least some of the time. You've read the classics, or at least know what they are, and get the greatest rush when you can fully connect with people — both mind and body. While you may have the looks as well, it's your brains that turn up the heat wherever you go.
